MODULE 1 – Work restraint training for facade installers

THEORY

WORK AT HEIGHT REGULATIONS
• Employer’s legal responsibilities.
• Employees legal responsibilities.

THE WORK AT HEIGHT HIERARCHY
• Awareness, identification and the danger of gravity, falls and injury when working at height.
• Understanding Product Instructions, Serial numbers and Inspection dates.

PRACTICAL TRAINING & DEMONSTRATION

PERSONAL FALL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT (PFPE)
We aim to communicate a good understanding of working whilst using Personal fall protection equipment in line with the code of practice for the selection, use and maintenance of personal fall protection systems BS8437:2005.

PRE-USE INSPECTION
• Safety critical PFPE components, identifying damaged or worn components and maintenance, cleaning and storage of them.
• Donning a Safety Harness and adjusting to fit so that the wearer is protected in a fall

CONNECTING A HARNESS TO WORK RESTRAINT & FALL ARREST COMPONENTS
• Work Restraint Lanyard.
• Adjustable Work Positioning Lanyard.
• Self-Retracting Fall Arrestor.
• Anchor point selection.

WORK RESTRAINT
• Install a Work Restraint System, also known as a Running-Line.
• Select suitable anchor points.
• Connect Anchor Slings & Connectors.
• System adjustment & Dismantling.

FALL ARREST
Fall arrest is the final step in the hierarchy of control for preventing falls at work, and should only be used after all other options have been considered. A fall arrest system connects the user to the structure and is designed to arrest the free fall of the user by decelerating them through a short arrest distance by applying an arresting force.

TEMPORARY EDGE PROTECTION SYSTEMS
Temporary edge protection systems are used to prevent people and objects from falling from structures. Systemised edge protection systems are designed for simplicity using a modular design so that guardrail positions are defined  and can’t be overloaded. Loose couplers are not required and the system has known load capability without external design.

SUMMARISING
Trainees are encouraged to participate in every aspect of this training and to ask for further demonstration or explanation if they are unsure. SafetyRespect Training courses are not rushed, our Training Managers will work at the trainees speed.

TRAINING ENVIRONMENT
The full course can be conducted in a safe area of the structure with Temporary edge protection in place.

SUPERVISOR TRAINING
Upon completion of Training, Supervisors are invited to review the course content.

CERTIFICATION
Upon successful completion each delegate will be provided with a certificate carrying a 36 month validity period for this specific application.
